23 04 2007

A new season of College Basketball Action has officially opened!!!

The Flying V Pre-Season Invitational UAAP and NCAA Basketball Tournament will kick-off the start of the College Basketball Season this April 29, 2007 at the San Juan Arena.

With Dave Dualan and former mentor Coach Virgil Villavicencio at the helm of this pre-season ticket, this tournament promises to be THE ultimate pre-season because it will provide a venue for each team to expose their players in an actual college basketball ambiance complete with school supporters, alumni, marching bands and cheers that can either motivate or intimidate a team, not to mention the other surprise elements that college basketball will bring like, adjustments to the officials calls, veteran college players bullying rookies, media scrutiny, trash talking and much more.

As for the coaching staff, this will help evaluate how far they have gone with their pre-season workouts.

It will also be a scouts’ haven because it will open their eyes to other teams’ systems and a view of coach, player and team patterns and plus their tendencies. Also, for the coaching staff, one of the highlights of this league is a look of the other teams’ talent pool. This league can offer each teams future talent the experience it needs to take their games to the next level. But one thing is definitely sure, all eyes will be on everyone.

There are 14 teams from the UAAP and NCAA that will be joining this league, namely: Defending Champions San Beda Red Lions and UST Growling Tigers, De La Salle Green Archers, Ateneo Blue Eagles, UP Fighting Maroons, UE Red Warriors, FEU Tamarraws, NU Bulldogs, Letran Knights, JRU Heavy Bombers, PCU Dolphins, Mapua Cardinals and San Sebastian Stags, and Perpetual Help Altas.

Game Day will be an explosive event to anyone who loves college basketball action. It will feature long time UAAP rivals DLSU Green Archers vs. the Ateneo Blue Eagles and the San Beda Red Lions going up against the Letran Knights.

There will be some burning questions that need to be answered during this tournament:

For DLSU – Are the Green Archers ready for this coming season after a year’s absence? How prepared is Marko Batricevic? Can he help the Green Archers?

For UST – the absence of a strong team like DLSU in last seasons’ Cinderella run might have helped their cause. This year will be different, DLSU is back, but can Growling Tigers sustain the expectations that made them the defending UAAP Champs. It will be interesting to see the Growling Tigers reaction now that the full slate of the UAAP is back.

For San Beda – this team built to be a dynasty, after solving their coaching woes, can they keep up with the new system? Are they still hungry to defend their title?

For the rest of the pack, how far can you go? This pre-season will reveal all. The season opener is still months ahead, it is never too late.
