NU’s Jankhe marks another spectacular game

FOR the second straight game, playmaker Jay Jankhe is doing the ‘impossible.’

Jankhe did all he could to power National University to a convincing 81-63 triumph over the Blue Eagles on Friday in the Fil-Oil Flying V preseason invitational cup at the Arena in San Juan City.

Jankhe pumped in all 20 points in the second half, including nine in the final period, to send the Bulldogs their second straight win in three games after upsetting last year’s NCAA champion San Beda College the other week.

“The players are playing inspired basketball especially Jay,” said National U head coach Manny Dandan. “If we sustain this kind of performance, I’m sure we can go far in our campaign not only here in this league but also to the UAAP.”

Jankhe marked his memorable game – probably a career banner – by scoring 26 points against the Red Lions.

After the first half, were they they led by a hairline – 16-15, 33-32, the Bulldogs relied on the hot hands of Asoro, Jankhe and Fernandez to completely deal the Blue Eagles their fourth setback after five games.

Edwin Asoro had a three-point play that gave the Bulldogs their biggest lead, 50-39, with 4:15 left in the third quarter.

Jankhe’s two free throws pulled NU to a 75-59 lead with 5:42 to go in the payoff period. From there, the Bulldogs were never threatened.

Bulldogs team captain Edwin Asoro dazzled the crowd with 17 points and collared eight rebounds, while Jonathan Fernandez and Joseph Salvado contributed 16 and 11 points, respectively.

The Blue Eagles got 16 points from incoming rookie Jobe Nkomakolem.
