Pido on Duncil: ‘It’s pure hearsay’

10 06 2007

PIDO Jarencio, head coach of UAAP Defending Champs – University of Sto. Tomas Growling Tigers, came to the defense of his player last Tuesday, June 5, being accused of faking his birth certificate.

“It’s pure hearsay,” Jarencio, a former PBA player and UST alumnus, said in defending Jojo Duncil. “The rumor about Jojo is not true and I have no time to talk about it.”

The rumor about Duncil’s birth records being tampered was published under Tony Atayde, Sr.’s news/column last Monday, June 3. Jarencio said that Duncil was born in 1983, citing records submitted to UST.

Jarencio refused to comment on the NSO records. “I’m sure everything is okay about Jojo, and I can’t comment on the issue.” Duncil started playing for UST in 2002. UST beat Ateneo in Game 3 of the 69th UAAP best-of-three finals to win the title last year by a 2-1 count. La Salle was suspended for one year for fielding two ineligible players.

Tony Atayde, Sr.

In my article, I never mentioned any player or school. It was the very accurate follow-up made by Josef Ramos that identified the player as Jojo Duncil. I’m sure that Josef would not be naming the player if he did not have solid proof.
