ADAMSON University, at last, nailed its first win after five games.

The Falcons relied on their hardnosed defense and fast break plays to hack out an inspiring 95-76 win over winless University of the Philippines last August 2 in the 70th UAAP men’s basketball at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

After leading by 20-11 in the opening quarter, Adamson was virtually unstoppable, extending its advantage the rest of the way en route to a 1-5 slate. The Fighting Maroons, to its dismay, are still winless in six games.

“It is history because I made my first win,” said Adamson coach Bogs Adornado. “Good thing UP was a little bit off.” Adornado added, “Adamson came out to play and everybody played good.”

Leo Canuday scored 25 points to pace the Falcons, while Patrick Cabahug produced 24 points and Roel Hugnatan added 14 points.

Cabahug scored a trey to close the half, 48-25.

Canuday hit a three-pointer for the Falcons’ biggest lead, 87-60, with 3:49 minutes left in fourth quarter.

UP tried to get back on track after slicing the gap down to 87-70 with 1:31 minutres remaining, but Adamson’s Cabahug nailed another trey for a 90-70 count with 1:06 minutes left.

Adamson cruised past UP the rest of the way.

It was just a fluid offense and a suffocating defense for the Soaring Falcons. If they play this intensity in a consistent basis, Adamson can beat anybody in the league. Canuday is an offensive juggernaut alongside Cabahug’s usual leadership and potent scoring with the emergence of Hugnatan at the post, surely they can go places down the stretch of the elimination round. Unawakanahimo!
