La Bomba El Fuego Jose Rizal

KUDOS to Vanguardia, Supan and the rest of host Jose Rizal University

Five-game winning streak for an extra ordinary team why not?

It took me several months to think that the Heavy Bombers have a chance this season to enter in the Final Four. But after the Flying V tourney, I’m convinced that these guys of blue and yellow could probably go all the way.

Under head coach Ariel Vanguardia and athletic director Paul Supan, Jose Rizal University turned to be a real title contender this season especially when the host school registered its fifth straight win last Wednesday.

They beat University of Perpetual Help, 65-62, for a 6-3 record that also earned them solo third place.

It looks like JRU will finally get a piece of the pie in the semifinal round if they can sustain this kind of game.

And Yes. I’m referring to the Heavy Bombers leech-like defense. They never give up in harassing their opponents thus limiting them below 70 points.

JRU routed College of Saint Benilde last Friday, 80-65, to equal its 2001 feat.

Guys like Marvin Hayes, Jayson Nocom, Mark Cagogoco, John Sena and Maui Pradas are responsible for JRU’s successive wins.

Well, good luck to their three remaining opponents – Letran, San Beda and San Sebastian.
