MCPO drops allegations on my son, says father.

CHITO Orbeta, father of Saint Benilde hotshot Paolo Orbeta, said yesterday the alleged gambling, game-fixing, robbery and extortion charges against his son were dropped by the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) due to lack of strong evidences.

Orbeta, 51, also told inboundpass.com that the only remaining accusations left are alleged ‘threats and intimidations.’

“God will make a way for Paolo,” said the father, who also has two other kids name Anna and Jericho aside Paolo. “We are just taking it one step at a time now after some major accusations were dropped.”

MCPO assistant prosecutor Exequiel Sison, he said, was the one who reduced the charges last August 6. The father of Paolo said MCPO ordered the release of his son and three others for further investigation regarding the alleged gambling activities.

Paolo and his three other companions managed to post bail at P2, 000 each.

Anita Orbeta, the mother of Paolo, also said that the College of Saint Benilde had already allowed her son to continue his studies since the charges were dropped.

Paolo Orbeta, 24, who also suited up for Welcoat in the 2005 season in PBL, was netted by the agents of the National Bureau of Investigation through an entrapment operation last August 2.

Complainant Wilfred Uy, the father said, was a student from De La Salle University.

Due to this development, the NBI operatives should now issue a statement as to how an entrapment operation, complete with “poseur-betters” and marked money, amounted to a dismissal of charges. Imagine, caught red-handed, but free to go? There has to be some incompetence at certain levels — a monumental screw-up of an operation obviously. Or has money changed hands yet again?

whew!

Think about this: No one’s perfect.
