UAAP and NCAA games suspended due to Typhoon “Egay”

18 08 2007

THE rematch between Letran and host Jose Rizal University will have to wait after the NCAA Management Committee (MANCOM) cancelled its men’s basketball games yesterday due to typhoon “Egay”.

With classes still suspended in Metro Manila, the NCAA decided to call off the double-header pitting San Sebastian opposite Perpetual Help, and JRU against Letran and at The Arena in San Juan.

“Due to the predicted heavy rains and the suspension of classes, the Aug. 17 games will be moved to a later play date,” said MANCOM chief Paul Supan of JRU.

The games are tentatively set Sept. 7 at the same venue.

Aside from the NCAA, UAAP also suspended its Thursday (August 16) and Saturday (August 18) games.

The Thursday match between UST and UP and DLSU against NU will be rescheduled. Same with Saturday’s Ateneo vs UP and Adamson and NU.

With a 7-2 win-loss card, the Knights are for an outright semifinal seat, their fourth in a row since Louie Alas returned to call the shots for the Intramuros-based team four years back.

The Heavy Bombers, on the other hand, are coming off a five-game winning streak and are eager to repeat against their opponent to solidify their return trip to the Final Four after a four-year absence.

Likewise, the Stags (4-5) and the Altas (2-7) are hoping to keep alive their own semifinal campaigns.

Games for Aug. 22 will be between JRU and San Beda at 2 p.m. , and St. Benilde against Mapua at 4 p.m. On Aug. 24 the games will be the College of St. Benilde and Perpetual Help at 2 p.m. and Letran and San Sebastian at 4 p.m..

The Aug. 29 game schedules will remain as San Beda meets Perpetual Help at 2 p.m. , JRU tackles San Sebastian at 4 p.m. On Aug 31 will be a rematch between Letran and San Beda at 4 p.m..

All games will be played at the Arena in San Juan except for the Aug. 31 game which has been tentatively scheduled to be played at the latter.

Araneta Coliseum will be the venue for the Cheering Competition on Sept. 5, as well as the Final Four, which begins Sept. 12.
