Green Achers now control their destiny

De La Salle University Green Archers once again slaughtered the UP Fighting Maroons, 89-61, in the continuation of the second round of the UAAP Season 70 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium last August 25.

JVee Casio tallied 17 points followed by PJ Walsham who had 14 points. Brian Ilad, TY Tang and Rico Maierhofer also scored in double digits.

VJ Serios made 15 points for the Maroons while Migs De Asis and Mike Gamboa added 11 points apiece.

The Archers started fiercely ending the first period with a 16-point lead, 27-11.

The green shirts’ advantage rose to 27 after the first half, 50-23.

After back to back lay-up by Walsham, the Archers lead went up to thirty four, 61-27 with 6:37 minutes to go.

UP made an 8-0 run in the third quarter in the 3:47 minute mark but could only cut the deficit to twenty eight, 63-35.

The third quarter ended with La Salle enjoying a 31-point lead.

In the final quarter, the Fighting Maroons made a 10-2 run with 3:52 minutes in regulation to lessen the Green Archers lead to 81-54.

But DLSU were too proud, finishing the game with a 28-point lead,61-89.

De La Salle is still second in the racks at 8-3 while UP is still looking for a miracle win and now 0-9.

“I like where we are now,” said Coach Franz Pumaren after the game. “Destiny is in our hands. We don’t rely to other teams to make it to the final four.”
