Green Archers now in the F4 mix

“It’s now how you start the game. It’s how you end it.”

Coach Franz Pumaren is already looking into the final four after the La Salle Green Archers emerge victorious over the National University Bulldogs for game no. 12 at the Araneta Coliseum last September 2.

“Technically, we are in the final four already. One leg is already in,” said the Archer coach who enjoyed their 14-point lead over the Bulldogs, 78-64.

La Salle is still sitting comfortably in 2nd place with a 9-3 card while the Bulldogs are at 6th with 4-7.

The Archers ignited an early 7-0 run in the first 3-minute stretch before rushing to another 15-0 run with 1:26 minutes left to play in the first period. The run soared to 20 points, 25-5, for the Green Archers with JV Casio sinking 9 of their 15 points.

Michael Salvado’s 18-footer was followed by an Edwin Asoro slam that pushed NU a little forward, 24-12 after the first period.

The Archers maintained their lead in the second quarter and NU could only settle for a 14-point deficit, 39-25, before halftime.

JV Casio scored a total of 15 points in the first half alone.

The Bulldogs tried to recover after Asoro completed a three-point play with 7:50 minutes, 43-32.

Jonathan Fernandez made a back-to-back threes that cut the lead to seven, 50-43. Bader Malabes’ last shot ended the quarter with NU still trailing behind the green shirts by nine, 52-43.

In the fourth quarter, Malabes sank a three-pointer with 9:22 minutes to open the final period but it was immediately replied by a Fernandez trey.

Rico Maierhofer made a three-point bomb after a minute and was later followed by a three-point play by Brian Ilad to increase their lead, 63-49, for the Green Archers.

The Green Archers kept their double-digit margin althroughout forr win no. 9.

Casio was La Salle’s main man with 19 points and getting 9 boards while Maierhofer shared 14 points and 6 rebs.

Fernandez made 21 points including five three-point bombs.
