Perpetual season ends with a win

Lee Sang Meon refused to return home empty handed.

Lee unloaded a career-best 24 points as Perpetual Help rallied past San Sebastian, 89-78, in the battle of also-rans at the end of elimination round last September 3 in the 83rd NCAA men’s basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

“I will go back to Korea for a vacation after this game,” said shooting guard Lee, who shot 3-of-7 from three-point territory and hitting 6-of-8 from the two-point field. “We will come back strong next year.”

Big man Rommel Balboa added 23 points and 8 rebounds for the Altas, while Mark Kong had 14 points and Virgilio Manuel added 11.

UPHD took the lead for good with Gil Manuel hitting a short stab for a 74-72 lead with 5:40 minutes left in the fourth.

Then, the Altas led by 13 late in the game with Manuel scoring a lay-up, 89-76.

Both the Altas and the Stags finished the eliminations tied for fifth with an identical 4-8 win-loss record.

Jim Viray had 20 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Golden Stags, dropping their third straight game.

San Sebastian missed the ‘Final Four’ for the second straight season, while Perpetual Help failed to get past the elimination round for the third straight year.
