The Dignity in a Game

10 09 2007

I have attended many games in this year’s UAAP basketball season and I have to say that all but one school showed a lot of class in terms of their supporters.

UST, UP, UE, NU, Adamson, FEU and even La Salle never once put up banners insulting the school they were playing against. During games, cheers were screamed, drums were blaring and the crowds were just so passionate for their respective schools. But no insults were hurled.

You may notice that I left out one school from the list above. I will not even name that school because I’ sure you all know who I am referring to. They showed that they do not have any dignity with the banners that they paraded in their game against La Salle.

Never in any of La Salle’s games against any of the 6 other schools were banners with the word “Suspended” raised in the rafters. This just goes to show 2 things. First, the school administrators have the decency not to allow such unsportsmanlike behavior amongst their students and alumni. Second, the spectators were there to watch a basketball game and not to hurl insults at the other team.

It is so sad that words such as “jologs” or “squatter” have been used to describe some of the member schools of the UAAP. I for one would like to personally apologize to the 6 schools mentioned above if ever these invectives were ever used against your schools. All 6 schools are a class act and not the price of tuition, the location of their campuses, nor their ability to speak good English will ever diminish the fact that all the 6 schools have a high level of decency and have used their education to show their dignity

When I decided to write this article, I was so dead set to lambast that one school for their unbridled bad behavior. I was mad…NO I was furious. But as I slowly thought about it, my anger turned to sadness and pity. I feel sad that a Christian institution can show so much un-Christian behavior. I pity them because if that is the way they behave in front of national television just to spite the opposing team, then they need to re-evaluate what they claim to stand for.

Again, to the other 6 schools, I say thank you and congratulations. You have earned my respect.

I totally agree with what you said Mr. Atayde. The fact that other schools are either being belittled or verbally ravaged by their rival schools or their supporters only show poor demeanor on the part of the latter. I have to say that I, too is sad if not totally dismayed especially if supporters of other schools would come out of their way just to hurl insults and inflict undignified words towards their target of choice. I am a graduate of UE and as you mentioned, my alma mater was once if not several times referred to as “squatter”; “jologs”; etc. by some who claim as prestigious and elite. It is lamenting that certain individuals would post such negative remarks just to irk others. It shows poor taste and uncalled behavior on their part.As much as i do not want to pay attention to these people, i can never deny that such had left me utterly disappointed. I only hope that these individuals would finally come back to their senses and act accordingly.Besides, no one has the right to make others feel inferior and RESPECT is some virtue that we should bear in mind.

A classic case of selective memory and hypocrisy.

Try again Mr. Atayde.

La Salle to UST >>> “Baon niyo! Tuition ko!”

“Baon niyo! Tuition ko!” ??? Doesn’t that mean a UST stude’s baon is just as much as the school fees at La Salle? And was that displayed in a banner during a game? I bet not.

The article was on the subject, “UST, UP, UE, NU, Adamson, FEU and even La Salle never once put up banners insulting the school they were playing against.”.

Mr. Atayde, you were wrong about one thing though. I’ve read posts by supporters of that “unnamed” school and their use of English leaves a lot to be desired.

Hey Stewie,

You got it wrong.

Its a sarcastic way of telling that La SAlle people are high class. It means that the tuition of a UST student is just the allowance of a La salle student.

That’s true and it happened in the 1990’s during the UST -La Salle rivalry.

I agree. selective memory adn hipocracy

Displaying the word “SUS–short for suspended” is a statement in itself. It reflects not the love of the game but the intent to insult their supposed ‘rival’ turned ‘enemy’ such a lowly act displayed by the team in blue.

11 09 2007
raver

to add, the tuition in UST to date is no longer cheap, imagine paying 45-50k per sem for a BS degree. I think no school will dare to lift that ‘tuition ‘nyo baon ko lang banner’ against UST ever again.

But ust is not the topic here so let us stick to the gist of this thread.

Hi,

I think everyone hurls insults at each other during the game because its an emotional rivalry. Its not just an admu-dlsu thing. I remember when the Archers were guilty of cheering “Jologs” against FEU during the UAAP finals a few years back.

Yes we may be talking about streamers but remember streamers can be made by just 1 person and distributed and posted. A whole arena chanting insults at the other team is more unclassy. I think the green and blue are guilty of having no class on very emotional games. the blue chants “Suspended” and the green chants “Jologs”. I think DLSU should also be removed from the list of classy supporters. Sama sila ng rival nila 🙂

arvsal2005, it should have been: La Salle to UST -> Tuition niyo! Baon ko!

ang sinabi ni aminin is the reverse. siguro kung UST to La Salle, tama yun.

anyway, mr. atayde’s article was pointing out banners that are putdowns against the opposing school. he was not referring to verbal attacks against each other in which all fans are guilty of.

school officials have no control over individuals who bad mouth other schools. but school officials have control over the kind of banners their supporters display. so hindi selective ang memory and hypocrite si mr. atayde. he was attacking the school, the institution itself and/or the school administrators. not its students or supporters, at least in this article.

probably guilty din ang la salle in the past of displaying such kind of banners. then hypocrite nga si mr. atayde. but please cite an instance that this happened also in la salle’s case, that is, putting up banners for everyone to see that basically puts down the other school.

if my memory serves me right, la salle has done no such thing.

stewie,

FYI, School officials do not have control on which banners are displayed in Araneta. If you’ve ever been to a game anyone can bring a banner and wave it. it does not have to pass through any type of screening.

The theme of the article as the title implies is class, not the banners. the banners concept was used to reinforce the idea that among all the schools in UAAP ateneo has no class. They have no class because they put up banners. He might be targeting the school/institution but the institution has no control on what banners to display (which I am sure he knows since he is in all DLRT games), so mr atayde was referring to the school community in general. So you are saying that ateneo has no class because some ateneans put up some 5-7 banners which could belong to just 1 person. but DLSU has class because they never put up a banner, only about 5000 cheerers chanted together “Jologs” “Baon ko, tuition niyo”. Which one has more class? I believe both do not have class. Ateneo has no class but please do not wash your hands and say that DLSU has class. They are the same level. Elitists 🙂

If you notice, I only talked about this year. Also, I have issued my own apology if anyone from La Salle has ever insulted any other school. I specifically mentioned that the 6 schools need to be congratulated. I did not mention any congratulations to La Salle. I also commended the administration, students and alumni of the 6 schools. Again La Salle was not included.

Regarding who has more class…I do not compare La Salle and the other school but rather compare that school to the other 6.

Atayde i think is not in a position to say that banners of ateneo have no class (i think his bias and second dlsu committed the same mistake in 1990 to ust, tuition nyo, baon ko lang”) and that person who displayed “suspended” banner also cannot claim that its ok. dlsu have gang green while ateneo have sixth man, they should police their own ranks. ever heard or seen a member of tiger pack shouting or displaying banners like “conyo” against dlsu or ateneo? i agree that the institution could not control their supporters but the supporters can control themselves, if they are classy. if supporters cannot control themselves or their own ranks, then, its up to the public to say they are classy or not.

Mr. Atayde,

While reading your article, I was like… “WHAAT?!?”

It’s like i’m reading a devil’s work. And the ‘green devil’ is wearing a costume pretending to be an angel.

Oh c’mon, lets get real!!!

I’m not a fan of Ateneo or any UAAP school but I believe, even in the NCAA and other leagues, things like that really happens and you cannot say, and “can never claim” that even once in the history of your team’s games, never a member of your crowd became unruly.

Let me help you guys clear this situation.

Mr. Atayde put the word “DIGNITY” in its title. Everybody knows that dignity can not be found only on banners. If dignity can only be found through the use of banners then that would mean one thing – STUPIDITY!

Let’s read the exact words he said:

“UST, UP, UE, NU, Adamson, FEU and even La Salle never once put up banners insulting the school they were playing against. During games, cheers were screamed, drums were blaring and the crowds were just so passionate for their respective schools. But no insults were hurled.”

-WHAT WAS THAT AGAIN?!? NO INSULTS WERE HURLED!?!?
Do we have a “more credible” person here who can say this to all of us?!? Sorry but I don’t believe in this person anymore.
And, are you trying to form a league of schools that would hate the other school? Forming a circle of Dignified schools against the other? Parang mga bata, kampihan?

Here’s another one from your article:

“You may notice that I left out one school from the list above. I will not even name that school because I’ sure you all know who I am referring to. They showed that they do not have any dignity with the banners that they paraded in their game against La Salle.”

-Well, this is just the most stupid article I have ever read so far from a lasalista! This is as good as scrap!
Why not name Ateneo? Are you Scared?!? Honestly, I dont know what kind of banner that was but let me tell you this… People are so much affected, because TRUTH HURTS. Was it true or not, why can I feel a sense of guilt in your words? Yes, we felt your anger but a man with a high emotional intelligence is able to control his emotions well.

COME ON GUYS!
WAG NA TAYO MAGMALINIS!

DIGNITY is a very broad topic. You can say a person has a dignity because he is a son of GOD, in that case we are all dignified people for God’s sake! (and I think God never wants his children to be tagged as ‘undignified’).
But the word Dignity, as how it is used here should mean and relates with earning a respect. in this case, are you saying that Ateneo does not deserve to be respected? That is because they raised stupid banner/s?!?

Again, said by you:
They showed that they do not have any dignity with the banners that they paraded in their game against La Salle.

Why? Is raising banners more grave than foul words that are shouted? Are the people who raise banners does not deserve to be respected than those of people who blatantly shouts and yells offensive words?

I suggest you better be careful of your words next time. The way I see your article, it’s like you want Ateneo against all. Cmon, let’s get real!

When I said school officials having control over such banners, that means responsibility rests on their shoulders. If one is a well-meaning school official and has seen such banners displayed for all to see, he or she should have the propriety worthy of his/her position to have that banner removed. Okay, probably in the midst of the excitement, the Ateneo school officials may have not notice it. That is forgiveable.

la salle, elitist? even to those who are deaf and couldn’t speak, la salle has a school for them. DLS-Araneta, caters to the lower income groups but specializes in the field of agriculture. DLS-Canlubang, caters to the southern Luzon population. La Salle provides quality education to all deserving Filipinos. And we are all One La Salle.

But after reading the posts here, I may agree that La Salle is not entirely without sin in this issue. Anyway, we only “hate” each other when the games are on. But after the battle for sports supremacy during the UAAP, I don’t think the animosity between the schools continues to exist.

11 09 2007
Martin

Oh come on… Were you cheering for DLSU that fateful day, Mr. Atayde? Were you hurt when they lost in the waning seconds of the game? 🙂

Jeering aside, do you want to know my honest opinion on your article? Totally absurd and one-sided. I wasn’t in the game to watch it live but I’ll take your word for it that those insulting banners from the sea of blue were used. Was it wrong? I think so. But to accuse only one school of lacking the dignity of sticking to the values of sportmanship and camaraderie that the UAAP hopes to instill in everyone? Come on! You have got to be KIDDING me?!

To quote you “UST, UP, UE, NU, Adamson, FEU and even La Salle never once put up banners insulting the school they were playing against.” NEVER being the operative word there. Were you there to attend ALL the games and inspect ALL the banners that were used such that you can conclusively say without a shadow of a doubt that all 6 schools weren’t as guilty as ADMU? 🙂 Whether it’s ignorance, hypocrisy or ill-intention, I don’t really care what your reasons are for writing this article. It’s totally irresponsible of you as a journalist to single one school out without solid proof to ALL your statements. It would be impossible to enumerate every unfortunate incident that has happened in the past but I can name you one (and I do hope your memory did not selectively erase this). Do you remember the Finals between FEU and DLSU? (The one where FEU eventually won the series) I’m not sure which game it was but I do remember distinctly what happened after. One of the team managers of DSLU, while everyone was shaking hands as a sign of sportsmanship, took a cheap shot on Arwind Santos when Arwind only came up to him to shake his hand for hard-fought game. It almost turned into a melee before cooler heads prevailed. How’s that for having dignity in the game? You’re attacking the whole school of Ateneo because of isolated incidents with some of its students while you selectively forget the sins of other schools? Bravo! Bet you’re next in line for a Nobel Prize.

I have a suggestion for your next article:
Title: THE INTEGRITY OF JOURNALISTS

Why? Because I never saw even a glimmer of yours in your whole article. 🙂 Since when were you taught to use sweeping, baseless generalizations in your articles? Perhaps it’s high time you go back to journalism school and consult with your professors.

Thank you and have a nice day 🙂

Dude, you don’t know EVERYONE from Ateneo, so don’t judge them generally. and I bet you don’t know them personally either, so you don’t have any right to do so.

I bet if La Salle won, we wouldn’t see any posts like this.. 🙂

Oh, I also heard you guys were planning to file another protest? I’m not sure if this is true, yet, though.

P.S. I respect you for being the author of this article. Hey, freedom of speech, right? 🙂

There i a difference between a columnist and a news reporter. I write a columnist. My articles are mostly meant to be insights on my opinions. So if you don’t like it, fine. Those are my opinions and I stand by them.

Stewie,

You forgot to mention that La Salle put up a school in Bagac Bataan to cater to the children of the fishermen anf farmers of the area. The tuition is P500.00 a year and they get the same Lasallian education that all other La Salle school offers.

Also, by 2011, La Salle is aiming at having 1 out of every 5 students in every campus as scholars. Add to that the various Adult Night High Schools that are available for less priveleged, then the word elitist may not truly apply.

Well, here’s my opinion.
In a perfect world, collegiate sports fans would religiously adhere to the noble ideals and values of their alma mater be they Christian or otherwise during competition. That, however, is not the world we live in.
Since we’re on the topic of freedom of expression, aren’t those fans just exercising theirs?
Jeering may be unsportsmanlike conduct but it is by no means illegal. To indict it in general is one thing, but to single out a school for doing it after a loss smacks of malice and being a sore loser.
I think a better word than dignity to use in this discussion is “integrity.”
It shows “integrity” if you and the horde that you represent live up to the ideals that you are preaching.
I’ve read so many posts from all sorts of schools from the UAAP and the NCAA about their being classy because they are this or they have that. My question is if you truly are a class act, must you really proclaim it in public fora?
Shouldn’t action speak louder than words?

Let me repeat, “No insults were hurled”. Hypocrite. This is a simple tactic of diverting the anti-La Salle sectors in the UAAP and convert it into an anti-Ateneo puppets.

You are brave in conjuring all this up and publicly criticizing “that one school” but let us face the fact that this was a big mistake..

When was dignity and class ever measured in a banner?

Yes, I understand if you said you grew furious at that one person or group who owned that but to generalize the whole institution? Too far man. It’s not like school officials asked them to make one like that, or did they? *wink*

At any rate, I am not a member of either rival school..I hail from a different alma mater.

As for the games, I’m pretty sure you guys are going third so all I can say is..see you in the final four..err, step ladder or whatever it is called..

PS. I thought that banner was lame…If it read “T*ng In* nyo!” whoa, that is a different story..that I can say is class-less and jologs..but to be inflamed by sus or suspended..cmon..

Mr. Atayde,
During the 2004 playoffs for the Final 4 between Ateneo and Lasalle, with DLSU ahead by a large margin, Ryan Arana danced his now infamous jig while dribbling the seconds away, to the delight of the dlsu crowd. This jig was then incorporated into the halftime cheer routine of the dlsu cheerleaders in the next game between the two schools a few days later. You talk about dignity and class? Let’s fast forward to your finals match against FEU that same year–Arwind Santos getting hit in the back of the head by your team manager on national tv, then scampering away like a coward? if adamson fans also did what ateneo fans have done, i’m pretty sure la salle fans will also lambast your school/fans on your behavior.

but can’t we just move on and just correct ourselves next time. it’s a good thing mr. atayde wrote this article to make everybody aware, even lasallites, that we should behave in a more civilized manner next time.

The truth really hurts doesn’t it Mr Atayde?

You have no right to give a lecture about dignity, class and honor. Let me remind you, Mr Atayde that some people in your school gave what is probably the biggest insult in UAAP history. By fielding in illegitimate players, your sports officials mocked not only the rules and regulations of UAAP which sought to promote sportsmanship and fair play.

Insult? I don’t think so. Some members of the Ateneo community were just kind enough to REMIND you of the INSULT you gave to the UAAP, to the other schools who followed the rules and to the name of sportsmanship.

So better luck next time na lang. Better luck in terms of (1) winning against Ateneo and (2) writing a more logical column

Good luck to you! 🙂

mr. atayde,

when dlsu was playing against ust in the finals in the late 90s (it the seniors finals, but i was there for a juniors game), in the dlsu gallary there was a cut-out drawing of a tiger with an arrow through its head.

during ateneo-dlsu halftimes:
there was one time wherein the dlsu pep squad used a rubber chicken (supposedly an eagle) to hit a drum with.

much worse, in another halftime, they used an old ateneo jacket (not just a blue one) and stomped on it and kicked it around.

you just feel bitter that dlsu lost last sunday and now you are nitpicking about one banner.

don’t worry, if i think of any more examples, i’ll add them here.

Actually, 7 schools did not tamper with documents to allow ineligible players to play. =)lol 7 schools did not have a team official hurl his fist at another team’s player after a game. And that is why only 7 teams played last year. =)

Taking a page from Mr. Atayde’s book, I will not even name that school because I’m sure you all know who I am referring to. lol

UST, UP, UE, NU, Adamson, FEU and even La Salle never once put up banners insulting the school they were playing against. During games, cheers were screamed, drums were blaring and the crowds were just so passionate for their respective schools. But no insults were hurled.

– remember the 2005 or 2006 uaap season? the game where the archers lost to FEU and lasalle’s team manager gave Arwind Santos a cheap shot. yeah, no banners and insults, just a fist to a guy who wasn’t even looking for crying out loud. what’s the term for that again??? SORE LOSER!

– have you ever seen an ateneo official or member of the ateneo coaching staff do something like the one i mentioned above? let’s weigh both cases, on the left hand, a banner which says “SUSPENDED”. on the right, a cheap shot from a team manager to an opposing player. which is worse? jeez!

– when i decided to write this comment, i was so damn pissed at the guy who’s acting like ateneans have done the worst sports crime known to man. doing physical harm to someone undoubtedly is un-Christian-like, as all people would agree with me. come to think of it, you and your school need to re-evaluate what you claim to stand for.

Dear Mr Atayde,

Who are you to lecture about dignity, class and honor when in fact, what some the sports officials of your University did (and what eventually caused your suspension) was perhaps one of the greatest insults in UAAP history. Your school broke the rules, Mr Atayde, deliberately. You mocked and INSULTED the system of fair play and sportsmanship.

Insulting? Un-called for? Below the belt? I do not think so, Mr. Atayde. Some Ateneans were just kind enough to remind your sports program of the BIG INSULT they gave to the UAAP, to the good name of DLSU and to the idea of fair play and sportsmanship.

Better luck next time, Mr Atayde. Better luck in winning against Ateneo whenever that may be. And better luck in coming up with a more logical column.

P.S. SUS-PEN-DED

13 09 2007
NMcruz

Mr Atayde,

This article is purely flamebait. You feel sorry and pity for Ateneo. I feel sorry and pity for you because you because of your narrow-mindedness you have showed in your column. Where was your dignity when you had to “hire” not one, but two basketball players who didn’t even have diplomas, just so that you could win.

This act of your school transcends any banner that you were able to read in the games you attended. Your school is in a different level. Please do not talk about dignity again.

Lastly, face it you guys were suspended. If it hurts you so much, deal with it.

First let me just say that I usually don’t do things like this. I am from Ateneo but I have a lot of friends from La Salle. I have friends in UE, UP (Diliman, Manila, LB), UA&P, UST, FEU, Letran and so fourth. That being the case, I am one who doesn’t take one’s educational background against a person. I find it interesting that in many instances friends of my friends from DLSU take it against me that I come from Ateneo. More then that I sometimes fee that at times they try to provoke me to defend myself and my school. I never give in.

Why then do I feel so compelled to respond to this article? Why do I feel the need to respond to someone I do not know if I am able to let things pass when friends of friends insult me? It is simply because it is unfair for one to generalize. It is unfair that I am being judged because of something someone else did. It is unfair to say that we are a classless school based on the actions of a few. It is unfair to say that we don’t have any dignity. It is unfair for you to call me classless, unChrisitan and undignified.

If there is something I have learned through the years it is that Sports brings out the best and worst in people. Yes, at times peole may go overboard and when that happens we should apologize. Mr. Atayde if you were offended by that then as a member of the community you called “classless”, “undignified” and “unChristian” I apologize. But I think you owe me an apology as well. We are all guilty of saying things we don’t mean in games. This is true for ALL schools and not just Ateneo or DLSU. I hope we ALL keep in mind that perhaps at times what we say is indeed hurtful to others. Enough of this.

Mr. Atayde people tend to be idealistic during their student days. That is what is keeping this rivalry pumped up. But when they graduate and become professionals, they become more realistic. I apologize to all those who were offended by the article, just as much as I apologized for the invectives hurled at the other schools. I wrote the artice and I stand by my opinion. But if anyone was offended then for that I apologize.

Some of you mentioned La Salle players like Joseph Yeo. Many people who know me will attest to the fact that I despised Yeo with a passion because of his antics and on court behavior. The Manny Salgado incident was truly despicable and in another forum, I assailed that action as totally unacceptable.

I submitted an article about today’s game but it still has not been posted. So before you judge, just wait and see what my reaction is to the actions of Ilad are.

To the person “enough”, you will see in my article that I did apologize for the namecalling that was made towards the other schools. But of course the manner by which that apology was received by the reader is not in my control.

Lastly, to the comments saying na “patalikod akong tumira”, that has never happened here on this site. I write what I feel based on what I believe regardless of whether it is popular or not.

But if any of you want to talk to me in person and tell me your thoughts to my face then, go right ahead. You know what I look like and you will see me in any La Salle game.

I believe Mr. Atayde is really narrow minded to generalize that the banner bearers represent all Ateneans. There are bad eggs everywhere. FIrst you have those wearing green who are the main culprits behind DLSU’s suspension. Yes Mr. Atayde, they (a few) did it to LaSalle and the entire school had to suffer. But your suspension is something self inflicted – not something imposed by a banner. You did it to yourselves so take it like a man and just say “so what” or “its over”. Let me remind you your St Benilde guy who was nabbed by the NBI for selling games. Again, there are bad eggs everywhere, green eggs, blue eggs, red eggs, yellow eggs. So take it with some dignity. The problem is that you cant handle this truth and deep down inside, you think everything green is good. Wake up to reality. Life throws you a curved ball and you say unfair? True that the “suspended” banner may taste bitter, but we are all guilty of something when emotions run high. Easy ka lang pre, syado kang sensitive.

Thank you Mr. Atayde. We all have our own opinions but I guess what is important is the mutual respect people have towards one another. This is what guides our actions.

Bitter. This kind of behavior is very eminent in the UAAP, and there is no exception, all of the schools have their own share of insults and teasers to the opposing teams. So don’t even try to portray all of the other schools as innocent and classy, especially DLSU, ’cause everone knows how things heat up when it’s an ADMU-DLSU game. Mr. Atayde,

Parte lang yan talaga ng rivalry, lahat naman may kanya-kanyang gawaing ganyan eh… eto…

– the uncountable number of times schools like UST and FEU were insulted “jologs”
2002 – after losing to Ateneo in game 3 of the finals, franz accuses mike cortez of game-fixing
2003- after losing to Ateneo in the 2nd round, la sallites pelt the Ateneo bench with cups and mineral water bottles
2003- after losing to Ateneo in the final four game 2, la salle spectators attack former Ateneo players andrew cruz, sonny tadeo and rico villanueva. they gallantly attacked when the players’ backs were turned. when our boys recovered from the initial surprise and were able to defend themselves, they beat the crap out of their assailants.
2004- after blowing a 14-pt 2nd half lead and losing to Ateneo in the 1st round, yeo refuses to shake hands with magnum who had approached for the customary postgame handshake. instead, yeo slaps magnum’s hand away. gaco also refuses to shake hands with bugs.
2005 – right before beating ateneo in the 2nd round, ryan arana dances his insulting jig while looking at ken barracoso
2005- after losing to feu in the game 1 of the finals, la salle team manager pretends to shake hands with arwind santos but instead slaps him in the back of the head. salgado flees after hitting santos
2006 – sometime in august [way before they admitted] there were reports that la salle received a deped notice saying some of their players are actually ineligible
2007 – during the ateneo-la salle 1st round, DLSU protested while it was clear that the spirit of the law wasn’t broken; the outcome wasn’t affected; and the protest was a clear attempt to maliciously reverse the outcome for no reason
2007 – Rico Maierhoffer was seen trash talking a passing ateneo player while he didn’t know his shot didn’t actually make it…
2007 – and the latest… the brian ilad punch…

2. let’s not generalize
3. one fault like that does not necessarily show that a person/s is/are without “dignity”. besides, it’s true that Dignity is applied to all of us AS HUMAN BEINGS and NOT used to refer to our actions

Okay, you’re entitled to your opinion.
My opinion…you’re an idiot.
Your views are biased, one-sided and completely self-serving.
It’s actually funny, bordering on pathetic.

It really disappoints peple knowing that those schools should be model of repect and decency among their Alma Mater and they end up doing these practically nonsense things or pitting each other into a rivalry..I know there should be a rivalry to have excitement into the league, but not into the point that they would do those untoward acts especially into live TV.

Too many offensive rebounds on court
by Box-out!!!

I have attended many games in this year’s UAAP basketball season and I have to say that
all but one school showed a lot of boxing-out.

UST, UP, UE, NU, Adamson, FEU and even ADMU never once punched as passionately as Ilad
and insult the school they were playing against. During games, cheers were screamed, drums
were blaring and the crowds were just so passionate for their respective schools.
But no protests were hurled.

You may notice that I left out one school from the list above. I will not even name that
school because I’m sure you all know who I am referring to.
They showed that they do not have a life.

Hey guys calm down… Puso niyo 😉

Let’s stop the bashing; Mr. Atayde just gave his opinion like what all of us is doing now. Let’s stick to the context of his article; obviously the objective is to state that some Ateneo supporters crossed the line by parading insulting banners against their adversary. The question now, did they really do it (haven’t seen the game personally)? If so, case closed, they’re guilty as averred.

And as for claims that DLSU doing the same offense (even worst as some have claimed), well that’s a different story, write your own article about it (just kidding hehehe). Seriously, my point is that even DLSU or other schools is culpable with the same ‘crime’, that doesn’t negate the lapse of judgment from some Atenean.

During my college days, we used to label YJ’s as KJ’s, being so stern that in a game (DLSU-UST 1999 game 3 finals) they never allowed us to display our banner that took us hours build (with matching glitters and neon prints), saying that the content is inappropriate, ang sabi lang naman “exams niyo, quiz lang namin”, an answer to their ‘tuition niyo, allowance lang namin’, but now I’m thankful 😉

Going forward, let’s just avoid such behavior, take lessons learned and move on! If anyone would still commit the same mistake, then it’s time to be the big brother (to get even hehehe).

Peace.

I think a Thomasian is not in the position to tell us what to do.

Unlike the Jojo Duncil issue, this is simply between Ateneo and La Salle. It’s just jeering anyway.

Jeering is normal between Ateneo and La Salle. Nothing personal.

sabi ko na nga yung pangit lang ang titignan niyo. hindi niyo nakita how la salle managed to take ue into overtime. ue is the team to beat and they have a winning streak.

but instead of looking at what we can learn from how a basketball game should be played, people instead focus on things to put down others. crab mentality.

anyway, there’s still chance for la salle to face ue again.

14 09 2007
choggs

Talk about hypocritical Stewie…

It was Atayde who first focused on the bad things that ateneo did.. calling us UNCHRISTIAN, classless and implying that we’re UNDIGNIFIED.

And now that it’s your turn to take criticism you’d say “let’s stop looking at the bad and focus on the good.”

Good job on cracking under pressure for the second straight game.

14 09 2007
Blue Bomber

Stewie,

I was only able to catch the last half of the 4th quarter of the UE-DLRT game. From the final two minutes of regulation alone, it was clear that you guys were lucky to even take the game into overtime… lucky in the sense that the referees again sided with you! *tsk tsk*

1.) The UE player (Espiritu I think) didn’t touch Casio during his last attempt, and yet was called for a foul. Casio just double-pumped his shot and acted like he was fouled. Because of this phantom foul, Casio was able to make 1 of 2 freethrows which sent the game into overtime.

2.) On DLRT’s last play, Casio’s inbounds pass to Rico Mangyan-hoper didn’t touch anybody on the court. As such, UE should’ve inbounded the ball in their frontcourt with a little less than 2 seconds to go. The refs however ruled that the ball was touched so UE was forced to inbound from full court. A lot can happen in 2 seconds. Hell you only need a second to make something happen ala Kramer’s shot last year in the finals.

If you want to look at “what we can learn from how a basketball game should be played”, why look at DLRT? You guys CHEAT via fielding in illegitimate players (the reason for your suspension last year; I don’t even have to go into how your players are stupid and don’t really go to class) and paying off the refs. If you want to learn how basketball should be played, look at UE and UST’s athleticism/talent or Ateneo and FEU’s heart.

Oh and yes there’s a chance for DLRT to face UE again… that would be next year in season 71. You’d have to beat UST/FEU and Ateneo who has a twice to beat advantage over you. Asa ka pa! (This is of course the refs don’t gang up again on the Eagles this Saturday courtesy of another DLRT pay-off.)

on your part kung magsulat ka parang wala ka nang buhay kung hindi basketball lang eh. you base everything on UAAP basketball yun lang mundo mo.

why don’t you relax.. paglabas ng basketball court, araneta it’s the real world na. no one care if dlsu is suspended cause of cheating in basketball. no one cares about banners. may buhay sa labas ng basketball and lets generalize anything on mere basketball games.

Mr. Atayde, I’m sure you will never sing praises about the Ateneo in the same way that I will never clap when your crowd sings your alma mater.

I don’t usually read “literature” from the other side but I came across this post thinking it was an article about the Ilad incident yesterday but apparently it was writen days ago after your defeat against Ateneo.

I’m sorry, sir, but to measure dignity on the account of a banner that hurt your overly sensitive feelings, is just plain naive, to put it kindly. Pathetic and stupid to put it bluntly. And in light of the things that happened yesterday, this post has been elevated to a piece of tragic comedy.

“SUS…” on a banner. Ilad’s cowardly punch. “SUS…” on a banner. Arana’s double whammy – a kick from behind and a little jiggy. “SUS…” on a banner. Airhead Maierhofer’s flagrant fouls. “SUS…” on a banner. Why was DLSU suspended in the first place?

When you’ve had time to digest, let’s talk dignity again.

14 09 2007
blackgoldblackwhite

All I’m saying is that if we made a mistake can’t we just accept and correct it? Should we really be finding faults from others? Let’s be positive and constructive 😉 Kung me pagkakamali rin sila, then that’s their own problem to deal with.

And what’s the fuss with Jojo Duncil? He’s not even in the line-up; I don’t remember us violating anything. Actually, it has already been proven that he is in fact ELIGIBLE but still the committee voted a nay. Did UST questioned the decision? No, the majority’s vote was respected. And this is out of topic hehehe…

And I find it hilarious that you use the word class to refer to an institution that cheats shamelessly and does not have the guts to admit to it when caught.

excuse me, blackgoldblackwhite, what top is your school again? i guess we shoulda been the ones who said the statement “exams niyo, quiz lang namen”

admu-dlsu game no. 2:

Even before the ball was shot, a foul was called in the midst of the numerous penalties that both teams have. irregardless of the ball being shot or not, free throws should be done.

dlsu-ue game no. 2:

There was a hard foul on the side of Rico (which he immediately admitted) but Fampulme, as not part of the incident, reacted violently towards La Salle side. So, if he didn’t make that wrong move, no punch from Ilad would be made.

I rest my case. no hard feelings.

14 09 2007
coachdanny

Now let’s fast forward to the present. Here are your “un-Christian behaviors”:
1. Shaking hands after losing to Ateneo only to find out that you filed a protest (un-Christian behavior; failure to accept defeat and back-stabbing

2. Grabbing a player’s neck (Ilad on Zion) to prevent him from getting up

3. Of course punching someone who isn’t even looking (Ilad on Fampulme)

And I’m only talking about the present. What about the past 5 years? Or DLSU’s NCAA days?

You generalize the Ateneo because of one friggin’ banner that stated a fact?

C’mon Atayde, before you look at someone else’s backyard why don’t you look at your own backyard first.

While you’re doing that just try to digest that the “Suspended” banners were directed at DLSU because you indeed were suspended and that’s a FACT.

dear mr atayde,

before you issue statements against us, please clean the garbage in your backyard first. to say we are without class is just downright wrong. but i know that you will never acknowledge this because la sallites have different sets of values. if most la sallites think that dancing during the dying seconds of a game to taunt the opponent is ok, then we will never agree on what is an act of class and what is not. and because your beloved institution condones this by having the whole pep squad re-enact the incident, i know that a la sallite has warped sets of values.

by the way, i watched yesterday’s game and when ilad was on his way to the dugout, many people in green are applauding and cheering him on. definitely a class act by members of your righteous institution.

First thing, it’s true that La Salle was suspended last year for fielding in players who falsified their documents. so statement of fact lang talaga ung banner na un. the truth hurts lasalle.

second thing, during the last game against UE, alam naman nating lahat kung ano ung ginawa ni maierhofer. unnecessary hard foul. kitang-kita rin natin ung ginawang baklang cheap shot ni brian ilad kay fampulme. personally, i wasn’t infuriated at all at their behavior because for me, expected na un sa kanila. basagulero talaga sila eh. but you know what really pissed me off? it was the reaction of the La Salle crowd. why cheer? its as if you are condoning the evil done by one of your players? now isnt that more unchristian? akala ko ba live jesus in your hearts? what lasalle did really showed how classless they are.

and another thing, like what was said above, Animo means spirit already. so kung animo spirit, spirit spirit tlga un. that really sounds stupid.

tataede, ang sabi ko synonymous. you don’t just substitute the word in the phrase. like the phrase “the brave and courageous”. both words mean the same but it’s okay to use them both in a sentence. same with “animo la salle”. in this usage, it means “la salle spirit”. if we say “animo spirit”, it also means “la salle spirit”.

synonym – a word or phrase that by association is held to embody something.

in my much earlier posts on the subject of animo, i said animo has been mostly associated with la salle.

don’t want to start a fight here. just explaining what animo is to lasallites.

There are many comments here that are intelligent and very articulate. But to those who will put my family into the fray by posting my son’s friendster account here are stepping on grounds that you dont want to. My son did not write this article, I did.

I have not backed down from replying and even to the point of apologizing. But I will not allow anyone to involve any member of my family and just let it go.

Point Forward

stewie,

If someone put up “talo sa UST” in a game against Ateneo, I don’t think Ateneo would take great insult to it, let alone have some hooligans cross over to the other side to pick a fight, like some barbarians in Gang Green shirts did.

No great shame in that loss. Yes, Ateneo lost. Fair and square for all intents and purposes.

But to be SUSPENDED for faking papers? You bet your sorry green ass that its SHAMEFUL, EMBARRASING, and downright F’d UP.

Mr. Atayde, given the actions of your team, coaches included, would you write another article if there were streamers that read “HOOLIGANS,” “NANANAPAK NG NAKATALIKOD?”

These streamers you see are the consequences of your actions, together with the suspension you served last year. You did the deed, now pay the price.

I suggest you direct your energies sir to fixing your system, fixing your people and the morality (or lack thereof) they exhibit. The documented acts of recent years show a clear lack of Christian ethic — which you say you value — which, if you’re as fanatical as you sound, should be your primary worry.

17 09 2007
Boo Hoo

I personally abhor the conduct of DLSU people such as the crowd booing the opposing pep squad in the middle of their routine or the actions of salgado, yeo and such but as mentioned by someone above, its all part of the game! don’t even start by mentioning yeo or ilad or maierhoffer… because i don’t even want to mention the great and almighty Wesley Gonzales…

Dissing and fights are part of the game. Some of the DLSU people are just willing to take it to the physical level(though some more justifiable than others), while others prefer verbal wars.

And as also mentioned above, we cannot judge the student body by the attendance of the UAAP games. believe it or not there are people NOT interested in watching live.

I understand what the commenters mean, pero still I refuse to be told by outsiders of what my school really is kasi they really dont know anything about it, which is not much of a smart move.

Also lets face it, majority naman ng players mayabang e. Don’t make Arana and Rico the coverboys of Yabang Magazine kasi kung magbibilangan talga, hidni magkakasya ang mga mayayabang na player sa 1 cover. Let us not generalize students of each school as mayabang or mayaman or matalino or squatter.

i know less than smart people who got accepted to UP
i know humble and nice people/not so rich people in ADMU and DLSU
my brother and dad are from FEU and he isn’t squatter-mannered
fred lim is from UE and hes a great mayor

its just that school spirit brings out something in all of us, which escalates even more in the UAAP Men’s Bball court. Kasi kung iisipin natin, defending your schools pride is like defending your family pride. Im proud of the defense the ateneans have put for themselves here… lalo na kung walang pinatatamaan na iba in the process. Naiinis lang ako sa mga umeepal na ndi naman dlsu or ateneo tapos humihirit. please… your fould words are only justifiable if you are in defense of your school… to do otherwise would categorize you into what mr atayde is trying to define.

Well, at the end of the day.. just think… masmalala dati. In the 70’s, my dad had his owner’s windshield smashed while parked, just for having a Letran sticker on it. He said that this also happened the other way around. at least the violence is more contained now and people are more or less… less violent (except for the limited few… i hate you yeo!)

stewie

Point Forward,

Sinasabi mo lang yan na hindi kayo ma-aasar pag may nag insulto sa inyo about your lost to UST last year. Pero, hindi yan ang point ng post ko, Mr. Point Forward.

Ang point is nobody has done such a thing against Ateneo because that has past. Deal with the present. Get the point, Point Forward?

That’s why of all schools, we look down on you atenistas. Mas may modo pa yung ibang schools kung ganyan lang ang ugali niyo.

Would you still hold a child responsible for his mistakes in the past even after he has already made amends for his behavior?

My only question is, why is Ateneo the only one who parades these streamers in every game? – The Green Mind

Why are you asking this question? Didn’t you already state in your “article” that it is because Ateneo is CLASSLESS and “UN-CHRISTIAN”?

So you’re still into the streamers huh? What about UE chanting “Sus-pen-ded!” and spelling out S-U-S with their balloons during your last game?

My question is why are you always singling-out Ateneo?

Sir, I really think you have a selective memory. Have you already forgotten the infamous “Taeneo” shirts or the “Blue Eggless” banners?

Please don’t reply with the excuse that you are only talking about this year. That’s the most arrogant (and pathetic easy-way-out) justification for calling an entire institution that has been around for almost two centuries classless and “un-christian” based on a banner displayed in one season.

18 09 2007
OBF

the truth hurts. that’s it.
it was a statement of a fact. people would not react that way had it not occurred.

Look who’s talking…Kala ko b parati nanunuod ng game c Mr. Atayde eh bkt parang inosente sha s mga pang-iinsulto ng la salle simula dati? Hnd rn nmn banner lng ang dapat pagbatayan kundi un mga comments n cnsb ng mga students after a game. For instance this last saturday after losing to nu, sb ng former classm8 ko n la sallian s ym “ateneo bobo kau!” Isn’t that an insult too? Would you call that “Christian”? Kht nsa banner o wala, an insult will always be an insult. Mr. Atayde the next time you complain, be sure that you know what you are talking about and please don’t be biased because it’s so obvious.

Atenista

I suggest you get your facts straight before you start ranting!

oo, may streamer nga kami ng “suspended”, but its nothing compared to the insults you’ve thrown at Ateneo. OO, mali nga ung banner na un. But if we were the school that got suspended, don’t you think Lasalle would’ve done the same?! siguro nga gagawan niyo pa ng cheer un eh! Like ung “beat ateneo. animo lasalle” And don’t even start talking about how un-Christian-like our behavior are because we both know that Lasalle behaved worse in the past. Take what happened at this afternoon’s game.In the middle of the Blue Babble’s routine, the Lasalle crowd started booing them and chanting their own cheer. Is that what you call Christian-like behaviour?

wag kayong magmalinis.

Maybe it’s YOUR school that needs to re-evaluate what you claim to stand for.

kpg natatalo tlga kung ano2 pinapansin tulad ng banner…kht ateneo hnd malinis and oo nga nang-iinsulto pero it does not mean n dpt n kau magmalinis kc below belt dn kau mang-insulto (Eggless, TAEneo)..what about the brochure kng saan inemphasize ng dlsu ung “other private university”, don’t you think that’s offensive too? kung sa bagay, sariling side nyo lng ung tnitngnan nyo and u see urself as the godly an blameless Christians kya nga naglagay ng #15 s jersey ng archers, hero nyo pla un mga 2lad ni ilad…i suggest that u make ur own dlsu dictionary and dlsu Bible since ang definition s inyu ng Christianity kakaiba and don’t ignore d comments posted here kc responsibility m un after u posted this absurd article…im praying for u n sna nxt tym u keep quiet nlng and let God do the justice if there is really no justice in the suspended banners…

guys, mukang you’re taking things too seriously here… hehehe lets just enjoy the “cheering thing” between la salle and ateneo besides yun naman ang nagpapasaya ng araneta diba? don’t you dare deny it! masaya ang mag cheer! 🙂

don’t take things as “it is” those banners, lines, words are meant to tease you? (whoever you are) take it that way. ang pikon “talo” right? hehe… and hindi pa obvious?

i’m proud to be a part of the la sallian family and i do respect ateneo and other schools. this is just a GAME! this game wouldn’t DEFINE who we really are…

and besides each university holds a thousands of students (will you blame the school/insititution for their “uncontrollable” manners?)

and to DLSU-laging pikon kahit panalo;(you’re asking us to make our own bible?) how come you got the nerves to used the word bible? and you even mentioned that WE la sallians have our own definition of Christianity? can you define that FOR US?

I SPEAK FOR MY SELF—

I agree with Mr. Atayde. He was referring to this year’s UAAP games. I haven’t been to previous games so when it comes to this season’s matches, I noticed the same.

Maybe the admin’s not to blame when a few streamers shouting “Sus…” are raised by their side. But the streamers weren’t few. They should’ve done something. The Pep Squad members were all over the place.

BTW, whats wrong with “beat Ateneo, Animo La Salle”? And wearing #15 for their teammate? It’s not like they were worshipping him or treating him as a hero.

Just my opinion.

Dwins,

okay let’s talk about this season. what can you say about what the dlsu pep squad did during their game against FEU? the one when they ended their halftime performance by pretending to ride an FX?

those people who held the Sus.. banners. they’re not part of the pep squad. they paid for their tickets and watched the game. there was nobody at the gates screening people determining who’s righteous enough to carry school banners. there are supporters who don’t even go to the schools they cheer for.

the dlsu pep squad, brian ilad, (okay let’s not include salgado since we’re talking bout this year), these people were chosen to represent DLSU. they had to endure an intense audition process or at least chosen among a number of others before being able to have the honor of wearing a La Salle uniform. are these already the best of the best? poking fun at people who commute, bastardizing another school’s mascot, and punching someone when he’s not looking are just some of the things people chosen to represent your school have been doing this year.

fine, i agree that the Babble could’ve done something about the banners if they deemed it was too offensive. the thing is, it’s not. DLSU WAS SUSPENDED. Below the belt would be having “CHEATERS” banners which again, is a fact, whether it was only done by a few people and with the head coach totally oblivious.

this article is a mistake and i think mister atayde is aware of that. he already “spologized” yes, “SPOLOGIZED”. next time sir, please consider writing things like this in your personal journal and not in your column for a sports news blog.

congratulations to dlsu for winning the game earlier. we’ll get you next time!

18 09 2007
dlsu - laging pikon kahit panalo

d ako pikon, i’m just defending my school.. snsbhan nyu n kame n insulting and offensive so cnu pikon db kung ang game tinatake personally?..sori kung iba un pgkaintindi m s cnb ko…when i said u hav ur own definition of Christianity and that u should hav ur own Bible, i meant that FIGURATIVELY, i think u took it literally..ang ibg ko sbhn u shud look at urselves also kc s sinulat ng “columnist” d2, parang kame lng un “Unchristian”…so kung ganun anu un “Christian” para s inyu kung nagmamalinis kau s mga gnwa nyu db..i agree it’s just a game, so why complain about the banner if “it’s meant to tease you” db? so cno tlga ang pikon? i understand that u’r trying to defend ur school as well pero ang point naming ateneans d2 is sna tama ung pagkakadefend db kc insulting dn tong article n to eh…anyway, God bless u nlng..

Trish Jimenez

Okay, mac_bolan00… here’s my head-on reply = I do not see what is so undignified and un-Christian about the Suspended Banners. Its just a STATEMENT OF FACT.

Kung gusto mo buoin pa natin eh:

La Salle was SUSPENDED from the UAAP for one year because of fielding ineligable players.

Bryan Ilad was SUSPENDED for five games because of punching a UE player on the head, unprovoked, while his back was turned!

Pwede rin namang: Salgado was BANNED from any UAAP gathering for punching Arwind Santos, unprovoked, while his back was turned (again!)

So, dare to give me a direct reply to this??
Yung STATEMENT OF FACT ah…

19 09 2007
haha

I pity this topic, really.

If I’m not mistaken, there’s a cheer that goes something like, “Animo La Salle, beat Ateneo.”
If that isn’t foul either, then what is? You’re obviously biased and this is a Sports NEWS site. People read it for information.

Sure, there was that sign. But don’t act like La Salle is so innocent too. There are hats of eagles being stabbed/killed by green arrows.

Everybody’s foul and everybody gets really competitive in the game.

Stop being biased. Cause I’m sure you know that it’s wrong. In the world today, there is a lot of rivalry. So get over yourself.

ano bang mapapala ng isang tao kung mag champion man ang university niya? dadalhin ba niya ito sa kabaong nia pag sumakabilang buhay na sya? ilalagay ba yun sa lapida nia na “My university, __(name of school)___ was the champion in UAAP season ’70” ??

come to think of it, yes, we would be MORE proud of our school pag champion sa UAAP. Pero duh, diba the reason why we go to school is to LEARN THINGS that we dont learn at home? … walang kwenta ung sinabi ko sa part na yun pero, ang point ko lang eh,

WALA NAMAN SA “PANGALAN” NG SCHOOL YAN EH. NASA PINAG ARALAN.

because of the comments, parang mas nag pupush tau na magalit sa mga taga ibang univ. pero, we criticize them, we make fun of their mistakes and all sorts of stuffs..

mas asikasuhin nio yung PRELIMS/MIDTERMS or FINALS. yun, yun dapat ang mas dinidibdib.

or

“SENATOR GORDON, WHO STUDIED AT THE ATENEO, DISCREDITS MAIN WITNESS VIDAL DOBLE IN THE GARCI CASE, ALMOST LIKE ACTING AS COUNSEL FOR GMA INSTEAD OF BEING A SENATOR OF THE PEOPLE.”

pero lumalayo na sa main topic. anyway, i was just stating a fact. but i’m sure not all ateneans are like these two.

...........

Well mac_bolan00… Personally, I dont care if that does happen.

First of all, I am not MVP. I cannot speak for him though on whether it IS right or wrong, maybe you should try asking him (my bet is that he’d just cut all the phone lines of that school – haha! kidding).

Secondly, if its a proven fact more than a common perception, then I seriously wouldnt mind, and I definately would not write an on-line article about it.

Neither am I saying that its a justification. Im saying there’s no need to justify anything since there’s nothing wrong with saying that La Salle was suspended. Or that La Salle misspelled their own school’s name. The most I could say about it would be that AdMU is gloating. But not un-Christian.

And lastly, there is no need to pity my parents as they did not need to pay that much. You see, I was a scholar for academic excellence, graduating cum laude, and now, boss of numerous La Sallians. Now if that’s nothing to you, or if you disagree, that’s fine with me.

20 09 2007
mac_bolan00

then i pity whoever sponsored you. your reasoning’s ridiculous. i suppose if your brother went to jail or your sister had an abortion, you’ll openly discuss it during sunday lunch. galeng.

20 09 2007
mac_bolan00

if he’ll cut the phone lines to UP diliman, the government will expropriate PLDT and maynilad “in the name of the people”. haha kidding.

20 09 2007
...........

Im sure we will be discussing anything that has to do with a member of the family. Discussing lang naman pala eh… Along with the issue of hazing I suppose, and how its a pity that the people’s tax money was used for the perpetrators’ education.

Now if you still have an objection on people -discussing- this, mag-rally ka na lang. Dont worry, I wont protest your banners.

20 09 2007
...........

Citing the example of Stewie on Former President Joseph Estrada – I personally did not cry “un-Christian” or “undignified” either when his efigy was burned and such. Sige lang, go. Walang Atenistang mapipikon, Im sure. As for the Gordon issue, my only concern is, mahaba-habang banner lang ata yan if ever. Pero kung may gumawa, bilib ako sa tiyaga at commitment nya sa issue ah.

Pero malayo nga naman sa topic. It would be hard to compare naman kasi an issue of a single person with the Suspended banners. Which may apply to the La Salle community as well actually. Its only too bad that the actions and decisions of a small group that brought about the suspension, affected the whole La Salle community. If the Lasalians detest being jeered about the suspension, they should take it out on those who committed the infraction…

Just like what is being done about the Bryan Ilad issue… I heard he is suspended from school as well as a disciplinary action over and above the sanctions given by the UAAP board. Now this is an action that I commend La Salle officials for. I doubt if they will be jeered for this… Sana ganun na lang din ang ginawa sa recruitment team nila.

20 09 2007
hmm

i think the best course of action for this article would be to take it down, or add an apology within the entry itself. even if the writer had apologized, one has to sift through a ton of comments before reaching that apology. this also being a sports news blog, i would imagine that inflammatory posts like this would only erode the overall quality of the site itself.

it’s still as crass and thoughtless as atayde described it. even a despicable UP fratman such as myself thinks so.

mac_bolano00,

Why should we even consider the opinion of a self-proclaimed despicable UP fratman like you?

21 09 2007
...........

first of all, there is nothing wrong with being rich. and dude, by reading your posts, the only thing that would make us dumb would be if we DID want to come close to you…

pero ayoko nang patulan ka. you were probably just a hug-deprived kid who wakes up too early to conflict-monger on-line with strangers just for the sake of being the opposition in an issue he is not even a part of… so from now on, as far as im concerned or to who else will affirm such, wala ka nang pag-Memeron

tamaan ang dapat tamaan

some people are just plain rubbish. You’re taking uaap games way too much than what you can handle. Masyado kayong apektado kung talo.. and ano naman ngayon kung mali ang spelling ng pep nyo or whatever.

Siguro wala kayong ginawa kundi manuod ng uaap instead na mag-aral. You cut classes just to watch im sure.. well for most of you i think. To think that UAAP is there to promote some sort of unity and cooperation among the universities in the country.

grow up people, nasa college/graduates na kayo. It’s just a game. you don’t know who the players really are, what’s behind their story and what it feels like in the court.

SOME of you are being too judgmental.. I’m not taking any sides but the fact still remains that it’s unfair when you speak ill of them, players, sa coaches, or whatever. why not examine yourselves first.. kung makareact kasi kayo kala niyo lahat kayo nagkalinis.

i love ateneo

yeah..i have nothing to say..you’ve said it all guys..=p why are la sallians so affected with the banner “SUS or SUSPENDED?”..it’s a statement of fact. Why you guys make it a big deal? How about you on your alaskas “TAENEO” ang “bawal ang TIUmamba dito.”.. they’re all the same..

ang pikon,talo.

=p Ateneo’s a very very good institution indeed. Banners are not enough to conclude that they don’t a snece of decency and dignity. School wars in uaap competition are very much noral..and i’m sure..everything will go back to normal after this season..

22 09 2007
i love ateneo

that they don’t have decency and dignity rather.=p i typed it wrong.

Oxide

I don’t get why Ateneans are so proud of the fact the La Salle was suspended last year. I mean, what’s the point of cheering ‘suspended’? Shouldn’t they be the one embarrassed? They weren’t able to be champions last year, even if DLSU didn’t compete. 😀

23 09 2007
to oxide

it’s not about winning oxide…it’s about PLAYING FAIR…so why do Ateneans need to be embarassed?

If an objective third party (who’s probably smarter than the first and second) can’t understand the bone of contention, then who pray tell can?

Sure! Try raising this banner up in front of Secretary Pardo… a lasallite who worked under Pres. Estrada and an Estrada Loyalist. I think I saw him at a news clip during the promulgation of the Sandiganbayan giving support to his Boss. Bwahahahahaha.

Like what we did, in both Basketball and the Cheering Competition— 5 years is something. One year won’t hurt. 🙂

good luck to both schools on Sunday!

DLRT.

You forgot to add Ateneo’s Raffy Dayrit, who was banned from the UAAP for taunting the Commissioner after Ateneo won the game against UST. That too is a fact. Worst yet, Ateneo already won the game. Where is the logic in that.

cellulite treatment

Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave
it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell
someone!
