Letran is in the NCAA Finals, again

12 09 2007

I thought this Final Four series would go the distance, I was wrong. Letran only took just one game to defeat host Jose Rizal University, 70-61 and earn the right to enter the NCAA Finals of the 83rd Season of the NCAA held at the Araneta Coliseum last September 12.

Rafael Jazul, Mr. 4th Quarter, exploded for 8 of his 17 points in the final period for a 30 minute performance as the prime mover in the ouster of the Heavy Bombers. Andro Quinday and Dino Daa had 13 points and 12 points respectively, while Bryan Faundo and Raymar Gutilban had 10-points each.

It was a close all the way with 7 deadlocks and 12 Leadchanges. But the Knights took control in the 4th quarter.

The Heavy Bombers had 3 players in double figures, namely, James Sena and John Wilson with 12-points respectively and Mark Cagoco with 11-points. Mark Pradas and Rene Cunanan had 5-points a piece to pace JRU all throughout the ball game. The Heavy Bombers had a balanced scoring attack but it was not enough to carry the thru.

The Heavy Bombers had the edge in rebounds, 47-39. But had more turnovers with 30 as compared to 17 for the Knights. The Knights shared the ball well with 15 assists compared to the Heavy Bombers’ 10 assists.
