If you insert this a mammoth of a guy like this in the UP line-up, I imagine the Fighting Maroons would have won the UAAP championship. No 0-14 here! UE wouldn’t have gone 14 – 0. Jervy Cruz would not have dominated in rebounds or put-backs with Ekwe around. Joe Lipa would still have his job. Lucky SAN Beda!
nah, it really was stupid… kahit na may ekwe sila, without proper guidance, 0-14 parin ang maroons… ano akala mo sa college basketball, palaro sa kalye na ok lang kahit walang alam yung coach? its true, ekwe is big and athletic, but his basketball skills are really not that impressive, but coach frankie used ekwe’s strengths and weaknesses to his advantage, cguro mas ok kung sasabihin nyo, lucky san beda for having coach frankie on their side…
im confused… kelangan ba talagang may “san” yung san beda, bakit dun sa cheer, “beda beda beda fight fight fight fight…” hindi nmn “san beda san beda san beda, fight fight fight fight…”
yup, im a bedan, but it was never an issue during my stay in cas (or probably i was not aware)… im part of the last batch of old school san beda… i remember hearing bedans call san beda, beda, so i thought it was not really a big deal… oh and thanks for the link, it kinda insulted my intelligence, but that’s what i get for asking a stupid question… haha! i just feel like its not a big deal…
Sorry if I still have to explain myself.
Sweep niya awards last year. MVP, ROY, myth5 at defensive.
Nagkataon lang UP pinakabobong team ngayon sa college just to illustrate the point. Hence the crossover. Yun lang napagusapan namin “what if?”.
why are we proud of san beda? well my friend thats a funny question…give me a reason kung bakit hindi kami magiging proud sa school namin.. !!!SCHOOL PRIDE MAGNIFIED!!!
salva will not play for beda.. kasi hindi naman talaga siya useful sa team.. what we need is someone that would really work hard for offense and most especially sa defense.. and to DEEBAG.. hello naman.. di ba basketball is a team sport.. hindi naman center lang ang naglalaro dun noh.. mag isip ka naman…
Deebag, im sorry for saying (yesterday): “i think you are stupid”.
going back to what you said: if Ekwe was included into UP lineup, they would have won the UAAP championship? I found it stupid because, basketball does not depend only on one person. we all know that… do you know the word “team”?
sorry dude but now you are insulting UP… “pinakabobong team ngayon sa college”?
be careful of your words man.
But what we’re sure of is that we are proud because of the achievements of Bedans (students, alumni, the Benedictines and the rest of Bedan community), San Beda itself as an institution, its rich history and traditions, and i guess we are even more proud of those things that are not visible: the attitude, values, brotherhood, loyalty and the ‘pusong bedista’… hirap explain, but i hope i’ve enlightened you somehow.hehehe.
But if you really want to be enlightened more, the best thing to do is to study in San Beda, or be part of the Bedan community. I guarantee you, 99%, you’ll understand why. ;D
Tama! Fellowship, brotherhood, the Bond, whatever you call it. if you haven’t experienced the true meaning of ‘community’, pasok ka sa loob ng San Beda.
i was an osb, (over staying bedan), there were a lot of factors involved (cut class, work, irregular skeds, didnt study, failed a subject though ironically made dean’s list in my 1st year 1st sem), one thing that is very evident in san beda is brotherhood. at first, when you were a freshman, some of the true bedans (kinder, grade, and high school) would not include you in their clique which is understandle bec they know each other from the get-to, but after awhile, you feel welcome, bec they know you belong in san beda. in my days, the 500 aplicants were accepted. funny, they have csat then, and to be in the 500 was a big thing. so big that some of my former classmates who were kicked out were accepted in letran or san sebastian (there goes the argument of letran that they are better than us academically). but going back to the subject of brotherhood, my first retreat which was only for freshmen who were not original bedans, the letters i received were from the original bedans and benes. i remember when san beda went back to mc after a 2 yr hiatus, bedans would flock even though were 0-10 and then 1-9 the first 2 years. bedans were no fair-weathered brothers, we support our team, win or lose. i remember my batchmate diga who was a summa cum laude, and was the jpia student of the year, and he was about the take the cpa board exam, the excitement of every bedan in my batch (even though we went classmates) were evident. (diga placed 3rd). even when a lot of us didnt go to law school, we pride ourselves looking at the result of the bar exams looking for a bedan, though it has been awhile since we had a top notcher, we still pride ourselves as having the best passing percentage in the countrywide, the lowest in the 30 years of so was 72% and as high as 90% in the 80s when i was there, something that both up and ateneo can boast. unlike those 2 great law schools, our students were not cutthroat and competing against each other to make it to number 1, tulungan tayo, because bedans know brotherhood (or sisterhood to some). i am a proud bedan, i am a proud benedictine, heck even my wife was a benedictine (st scho) and a holy mamaw (high school). a few ago, when i was about my mba here in california, and was about to have units evaluated for us standards, my university staff asked me “oh you went to san beda, is that as good as ust”? i replied, no, it is better. GO SAN BEDA FIGHT
i noticed a bunch of typos in my comments, but you bedans catched my drift (like countrywide shouldnt have country, or 30 years or so, and esp the portion that both up and ateneo “cant” boast. pasensya na, madaling araw rito.
actually nag beda ako high school, grade school and sobrang baba ng tingin ko sa beda. that’s just from my standpoint, though kaya napatanong ako sa inyo. thanks for the comments
I apologize dun sa “pinakabobong…” statement. Least successful na lang. I just figured UP could use a great rebounder and defender. A guy like that would’ve cleaned up all those bricks they chucked up on the offensive end. (Kahit sa NU pala) Anyway, no argument on the team aspect. But of course better players could always improve a team. Looking forward to San Beda next year when they add their next foreign player who they are hyping to be bigger and badder than Ekwe. They get another player like that, getting Nico Salva wouldn’t even be an issue anymore.

(kahit ano pa sabihin mo, you are bashing dude) for all we know, somebody must’ve dragged you into a comfort room cubicle and did something to your behind that changed the tune of your fart. or you probably were an asshole in school and people did not like you, so you grew up in san beda without friends. whatever it is, i pity you.

again, for the sake of all bopols out there who don’t know how to research first before saying anything stupid, here’s Sam’s story…
Sam Ekwe entered San Beda primarily because he wanted to become a Benedictine monk. As we know, within the walls of San Beda College the founders of the Benedictine communities in the Philippines are situated there as well. It is also where most of renowned Filipino Benedictines comes from (thus maybe the reason why a foreigner such as Ekwe got interested in joining the Benedictine community in Manila, Philippines).
An OSB (Order of Saint Benedict) priest asked Ekwe, a football player, if he could play for the red lions, because obviously, he got the height. and height is might in Basketball. He agreed, enrolled in the college of arts and science if im not mistaken, under Marketing and Corporate Communication program, and then trained to be a real basketball player.
It just means that San Beda is not desperate to get a foreign player.
”san beda red lions a desperate team trying hard to be a champion but they made it thru ekwe the main man with his fellow teammates as an accesories”
again as what i’ve posted on other topic, The red lions have proven that they can win even without Sam. This happened when he was suspended (for at least 2-3 games?). Don’t worry, we understand you’re just too much intimidated by our Ekwe. Anong school mo ba?
woohoo!!! go san beda fight!
Great Move!!! Great Beer!!!
Talk about “posterized”. Hayop talaga ‘tong si Ekwe.
Ekwe-lizer? More like a landslide for Beda if you ask me.
is it true na c salva will not be suiting up for the red lions next year?
is the bantay bata all-star be televise?
It’s SAN BEDA not Beda dee bag….
No pun intended. Ok… San Beda.

It’s called “poetic license”.
This has been explained already in so many Bedan discussion groups.
Are you really a Bedan? How come you don’t know?
Here. Read a discussion about artistic and poetic license:

Bedans are proud of the FELLOWSHIP.
It’s has always been about our brotherhood, our fellowship. Gold and glory are secondary. We have our share of ups and downs.
It’s all about the Bedan fellowship. Do not forget about about.
“Herald the Bedans coming. May their FELLOWSHIP never cease!” – from the Bedan Hymn composed by Sen. Raul Roco

Sam Ekwe was suspended for just 1 game.
Anyway, would any of you guys know if Sam has completely abandoned his dream of serving God as a Benedictine monk?
Also, I bumped into KE inside the campus, did he also originally come to San Beda to become a monk?
